TRIP REPORT FROM THIS WEEKEND 5/20-5/22

Post by Mister Kay » Mon May 23, 2005 10:08 am

OK, here is the report, starting with this trip being the first time I took the ferry over. I left at 520 but didn't make the last miller ferry at 730 due to traffic, so I headed backa nd took the Jet, it was 21 bucks roundtrip, you buy the voucher for the return trip at the same time and you save a buck I think. FYI - The parking is free if you go a little past where you board the boat and it looks like there is plenty of space, the big lot right next to the boat is pay parking. If you have a heavy bag I recommend droppin git off and then going back and parking, as it's a few hundred yards of walking. Not bad though. So I hit the ferry and it took about 26 minutes to go across at 30 knots or 35 mph, the announcement said that so.....don't worry this won't be full of useless crap.
Anyway, got over to the island and met up with my women and had some drinks and walked around checking everything out. Went over to the Boathouse which looks great, they had a great band and the place was busy most of the weekend, definitely a must see this weekend, might be a new favorite hangout, although I always liked it there. I met PIB Patty and utelized her bar skills a few times throughout the weekend, also got to talk to her a bit more on Sunday afternoon over a bloody mary and a couple beers (thanks patty). She wants everyone to come say hi so maybe Memorial Day weekend we will all meet over there. I went over to Mr. Ed's and looked around from the outside but sadly, I didn't go in because I just wanted to stop for one beer and they were charging cover, another time I went they wouldn't let me leave my cooler of "water" by the door, but rightly so as I don't feel like getting them in trouble. I also stopped by the boardwalk and went upstairs to the skybar (not skyway bar) and I never stopped up there last year and for those who haven't it is a must, I ran into a few managers/servers at the tiki bar up there. Wait, I didn't mention they redid the upstairs last year, bar is a lot bigger and the deck is a lot bigger also. It has a full bar up there now and I think the other tent is the tiki bar by the water, but the deck is so huge I couldn't see all the way over there. The workers were really friendly and it was a good time up there. Cheers to new friends at the boardwalk and at the Boardwalk. I really should of gone to Ed's as it looks like it is going to be the party spot, the upper deck looks sweet because you can people at a great angle.
Another first for the weekend was golfing, not putt-putt either. I went by myself but after a few holes I joined a small tournamnet these guys in front of me were playing, needless to say I made some more friends and we had a blast golfing, even won the tourney, although there were no prizes, the fun alone was good enough. THese guys were hilarious and it was good thing we were playing best ball, even though the longest hole was 250 yards I still managed to lose a half dozen balls. I plan on going again memorial day weekend and will post later this week if anyone wants to sign up, you only need a couple of clubs and you could even share mine as I left them up there with my girlfriend's stuff.
I went by the PIB resort a few times and it looks great, the pool and hottub were open and it looks great because the hottub sits above the pool and has a drain/fountain going down in the pool, very nice. Unfortunately the tiki bar isn't open yet, but two guys were working on it Sunday afternoon when I walked by.
I didn't do the poker run thing because I think it was family oriented, and I wanted to golf.
What else????
I just have to say from an overall point of view the island looks better than ever, everyone is smiling and happy with all of the new businesses, once again I didn't see any fights or any idiots, everyone was happy, some drunk, some not. Walking down the docks everyone was friendly and I hung around on a few boats. The good bathroom attendant is still there so the bathrooms are nice and clean still in DeRiveiara Park. New ATM by the drive thru, make sure you tip the drive thru girl well!!!!!!!!!
Any other questions????
Had a great time as always, and once again Hi Patty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't wait for this weekend.

Thanks for the report Mr K!! Sounds like it was a great time. I wonder if Mr Eds is going to charge a cover all the time? That would kinda stink. Was there a live band there? We'll definitely have to check out the Boardwalk - partying that close to the water sounds great! And the all the updates at the Boathouse sound great too. So keyword here is great :)
Were there a lot of people there? How full were the docks?

Ed's has charged cover in the past, but usually after 8pm. What time did you try to go Mr. Kay?
I miss the old Mr. Ed's. I still hate the Beer Barrel. I'm diggin' Hooligans. And Mills isn't the only hot guy up there now with a bald head!

It was seven on sat. I just wanted to check the place out and have a drink so I wasn't gonna pay cover.

FYI - Showers are now 2 bucks for 5 mins so bring your quarters! (there is a quarter machine there though)

The bathrooms are clean and nice, the same guy is working in there, it's worth the 2 bucks just to have a clean place to go. Use the coffee qurters from work.

FYI - I was not charged for using the facilities.

Their "[banned] Opening" party is going to be when you're there on June 4th CabinGirl...
