first timer boating in Erie

Postby dave the wave » Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:16 pm

whats up everyone! Newbie here, getting ready for the first trip to the bay!
I have some quick boating questions:
I have a 21 foot wakeboard boat that i'm thinking about bringing up. Should I be ok with a boat this small making the run out to the island or will lake erie be too much for her?

One more thing, are there any good spots to wake board / water ski? Not really sure what the layout is, but is there a bay, cove etc... where the chop isn't bad?

thanks alot and I'll see ya at the island Aug 18 - Aug 21st!
:D

Keep up with the weather, I've seen people take Jet-skis across, but its risky if the weather turns.
It happened at the bay, and man, I can't even remember her name!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the reply taz. i guess we'll bring it up and play it by year.

one more question, will i have to reserve a dock in advance, or will i be ok if i bring the boat over on a thursday when i get there?

DOCKAGE

If the weather is good a 21' shouldn't be a problem, but forget about the wake boarding. If you leave your spot on the dock your not getting it back. You can't make reservations on the public docks, it's everyman for himself trying to get a spot this weekend. If you get over on thursday though with a boat of that size, you should have some very good spots available, but don't wait too long.
What happens at the bay stays at the bay!

This is Lake Erie we are talking about. I have seen my 38' cruiser weathered in for days. If you are leaving from Port Clinton, just remember you might have to stay a extra day or two.
