I heard that there was an island near by which was owned by a mafia family. Is there any truth to that?

Ah, no I wasn't talking at all about Rattlesnake...don't believe everything you hear about that. For real...but it makes the island sound a bit more glamorous. My family has been connected with Rattlesnake off and on since the 60's till Jack Adams passed way....he gave my dad a membership as long as he owned it plus my step-mom worked there for a number of early years. When it comes to the Purple Gang it is Middle Island Canada where their island base was. Just south of Pelee and a little north of Kelleys. Back in the day there was, rum running which as I said would often go through the island passages, to Toledo and Detroit plus other points of interest all along the the south coast of Lake Erie. Some of the wine going came from the islands, but often it was booze going between the big cities. However on Middle Island (not to be confused with Middle Bass) there also was at one time a bit of a gambling casino and you could get a cheap date too, if you know what I mean.
You all don't need me to fill you in...just stop by the LEIHS or other places, any island born person or some one who has lived on the island a long time will love to answer questions about the history if they know it...we are very proud of it and as I said I only touched on a few brief things...there is so much more. But if you have questions, I will answer them to the best I can. And I'm glad that some of you appreciate the wealth of history the island's have to offer and the huge part they did play in our American History....and still do today.
