Ice Fishing

Postby Bluto » Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:31 am

I was wondering how te ice looks so far for fishing? If any islanders read this let me know. Would like to fly over for a few days and stock up the freezer.
Thanks

The ice came in for like a week, but between that warm weather and big wind we had it went soft and broke up. However if this cold weather keeps up there might still be a chance. People really weren't catching much... some perch in the Bay and a random walleye here and there. One of those random walleye weighed in at 11 1/2 pounds!
I would suggest contacting an ice guide on the island, often if you go out with them they will call you when the lake is ready. If it does get hard enough to go out on you'll need a guide, this late in the season the currents will be running making ice thin in many areas and cracks will be working. All of which will make it dangerous if you don't know the whole "drill".
