I know you'll say "doctors have proved that second hand smoke can lead to lung cancer". Yeah and I think I heard that if you drink coffee that you'll get diabetes & If you drink gatorade your more likely to get breast cancer, and if you eat chocolate your more likey to be impotent! Give me a break! There is something new everyday, When I eat I don't really like smoke in my face, but when your out drinking at a bar thats the way it is. If they didn't change the law you would still go to the bar anyway. You didn't complain out loud until the government( who are trying to control everything we do) brought it up!

I don't smoke in the house because... Wait for it... It stinks.
It stinks up the house and I don't my kid to have to smell it. She doesn't have a choice to go to a different non-smoking house. My house, my property, my choice that I made for her. When she grows up and can leave for college or gulp, jesus christ get married I'll start smoking in the house again if I'm still smoking.

I got the point and I agree. Yes there is a new "health hazard" discovered everyday. Most are BS.

My point:
I don't need the gov't making choices for me, neither do bar owners.

People keep saying that nobody complained or spoke up until the government brought it up or made it a law. That's BS. This was not a random law thought up by government. The people actually VOTED this law into affect (Issue 5) and also voted to REJECT an amendment (Issue 4) to allow smoking in designated areas in bars, bowling alley's, hotels, etc.... All issue 4 needed to pass was a majority of the votes. The majority of the people said, they do not want smoking in public places. In other words, the people told the govt what to do and not the other way around. And the government is not making choices for you. Like the argument people used in earlier posts. If you don't like the law don't go to the bars. Vote your dissatisfaction with your money. I guess we'll see if the bars are empty because smoking is not allowed. I guess what I'm trying to say is the majority ruled by voting for this law. It's not a frivolous law made up by the government with no public input.

My guess is that bars will survive. I think people go to bars to drink, not smoke. At least I do.

A good 40 percent of heavy drinkers smoke. That's a large chunk of change for an industry that dependes on volume and has slim margins. They repealed in Toledo for a reason.

You don't know if they're suffering of not. A packed bar on saturday night doesn't equal profits. A moderate weeknight crowd of regulars keep bars open. Nightclubs frequently go under because they only do business on weekends. If you lose 40 percent of your regulars you're finished.

I'll pose a question for everybody.

If the majority of bar patrons, not the general public, are non smokers. Why are bars always so smokey?

Awnser: More bar patrons, not the general public, are smokers than you think.

FACT: 3 Smokers who smoke in a facility every day can stink up a place that holds a hundred.

Deal with it or leave. Unless, of course, your name is on the deed of said facility then you can what you like.

If the majority of bar patrons were non smokers why haven't the owners created thier own anti-smoking policys in thier establishments?

Awnser:
It would be bad for business because a huge chuck of bar patron are actually smokers and spemd more money than the non smokers.

The whole thing is unconstitutional and downright unamerican. Not to mention a giant waste of tax dollars and resources.
