Usually never post on here, just read but I saw this one and thought I would throw in my 2 cents (and I guess I'm a bit late on the subject).

Personally, I only used to go to the BB for Dailey shows and a few times during those couple years when the Scintas played (which I think is an amusing story on its own, that they now play in The Scinta Showroom at whatever Casino in Vegas and charge some obnoxious amount of money for tickets - $75 I think - and all the while you could have seen them for free in our favorite venue on the island...95/96 I think).

Anyway, since we thought it was a good idea to "neon-ize" the place, I refuse to go in there. I mean, did people not mention how hideous those neon palm trees are? (or am I the only one who thinks that) And they transformed that whole corner into neon-fest, not just the BB. Sad...

I guess at 26 I'm already a bitter old man who doesn't like change, but I love the island and often cringe when I see it change in a direction that I find distasteful.

I promise I'll make my second ever post more along the lines of how I passed out in the bushes on my way back home from a great night at the bars because I got lost and was too drunk to walk anymore :)

Jagerman - This is one girl that won't be going back. Didn't care for the sentry at the door not to mention the friendly atmosphire

BTW - Are you the one I met last year with the pink Frosty's T-shirt last Xmas in July? If so, you were all smiles then.

I will answer for Jagerman on this one since he is only on here once in a while.

YES that was him in the pink FROSTY'S shirt on A dock in a shopping cart and it was hilarious!!!

Well, 30 days to go! I am jealous you guys are going up this weekend! I can't wait!

By the way, our group decided this past weekend, drinking margarita's out on the deck (working up for the bay) that we will not be going to the Beerbarrell this year! We have decided to take the bar list and try to hit all of them this year. Mkgg has alway wanted to go to the Skyway and we never have! As long as she doesn't pass out on Friday night, I think we are going to head up there!

We haven't partied on the docks before! Which dock is better and who is going to be there on June 24-26? Anybody care if we stop down?

Sorry, I had to pull those two references out. Very funny though. Reminds me of the story my friend told me about how he fell asleep under the cannon only to get kicked out by the police. So he fell asleep in someones backyard instead. There should be a prize for the most unique place to fall asleep on the island at night.

Hey, thanks for the 411 on the Beer Barrel. I haven't been to the island yet, but am finally coming out in late August with 3 other rookies from So Cal. Here's my story of how we decided that Put-In-Bay is a place for us to drink for a weekend. 4 years ago, a buddy was watching the Travel Channel and saw a spot about a bar on an island off of Ohio's coast that featured the "World Longest Bar". You don't have to go much further than that to peak our curiosity. Crud, we'll travel to Pigs Knuckle, Arkansas to see the worlds largest beer mug. As long as it has something to do with beer, we're in. Anyway, the Beer Barrel was the driving force for us to get to this little unheard of (outside of the Mid-West anyway) island, far far away from home. Now that I've read all your comments about the BB, you can bet your ass that at least I won't be spending much, if any, of my hard earned duckettes in that place. I don't travel 2000 miles to stand in lines with wanna-be storm troopers telling me that I'm too drunk to drink in their BAR. I got enough of that crap when I was 20something. I'll stick to the friendlier, smaller joint to spend my cash. So, here's to you, Jegerman17, for saying it the way it is. If I see you out there the weekend of August 26th, I'll buy you a drink for the heads-up.

It is definitely worth the trip from cali!!!

The pool bars alone are worth it and there are more this year with the opening of the pib resort!

Not a chance of us being scared off by a single crappy bar, Mills. Far be it for me to not be able to sniff out a good place to drink. From the looks of it, there are plenty of other places to try. We're getting to the island at about 9am on a Friday. Where's the best place to go for a relaxing eye popper and 2 or 12 beers that early?

Mr Kay, has the pool been finished yet at the PIB Resort? We'll be hanging out hats there and will need to check out these pool parties I keep hearing about.

Beer Barrel

Postby Bay4fun » Fri May 27, 2005 7:27 pm

I can tell you a horror story myself about the Beer Barrel. Last year some friends and I went to the Beer Barrel to see Pat Dailey play. We arrived about 7:00 in the evening to get a good table and were hungry. We decided to eat at the restaurant located in the bar. We ordered a Pizza and a bucket of chicken wings.

After waiting over 40 minutes we went back to the counter with our receipt and inquired about our order. They said we never had an order despite the fact that I had the receipt! I was frustrated and asked to speak to the manger. After about 10 minutes, the employee rudely told me the manager was busy. I said what the heck and just told them to give me my food or my money back.

Then an argument ensued about weather I had paid for the food when I ordered it the first time. I had a receipt!!!!! 20 minutes later I finally got my food and it was as bad as bad gets. The wings were rubbery and lukewarm, very little sauce. The pizza was soupy and had very little cheese on it and tasted like a store bought Totino's pizza. Our group took one bite of the pizza and ate three wings and took the raunchy food back to the counter and asked for our money back.

They said we had to speak to a manger (I guess he had time now that there was money involved) As we were waiting for what we thought was going to be a conversation with the manger a security guy came up and told us we had to LEAVE!!!

No REFUND, NO FOOD, and we were not given back our cover charge.

I will never go to that dive joint again...EVER I have told everyone I know about it and it seems from reading these post that this is a pattern of horrible customer service. With so many other bars to patronize, I don't know why anyone would go there.

We had no other problems at the Bay and everywhere else we went was cordial and fun.
Bay me NOW!!!! LOL
